waverace blue storm

When you play wave race Blue Storm The first thing you notice are the amazingly realistic wave and water effects and the crips clear graphics. The entire wave-scape is environment-mapped to reflect the surrounding land, trees, clouds, building, jet-skis, and anything else existing in the 3D world. Even more remarkable is how the reflection morphs with the changing waves and blends into the surface that lies beneath the transparent water. To add to this all the waves deform from the pressure of your jet-ski. This can be used to agitate the surface of the water in front of your opponents, creating a less stable surface. When you play in a race there is a totall of 8 players. There is also a trick mode wich adds more depth to the game. All the tracks featured in the E3 2001 demo were remakes of the original tracks. You'll recognize some of the track layouts, but for the most part there are a lot of new shortcuts and courses jumps, twists, and turns. You can also break through stained glass windows, or break through metal gates on narrow shorelines, not to mention some insane tricks. also each course has a tune or song. Another new addition to Blue Storm is the ability to custom-select the weather effects. You can have it rain or a little or you could make a sever storm. You can even choose to let the weather get progressively worse or better. So the start of a race may be calm and clear, but by the end rain will be pouring down from the black sky. The wave effects in all of these modes are significantly different in terms of control. It's fairly easy to turn and navigate around corners when the water is calm, but when the waves are kicking up and everything is choppy, you really have to concentrate. It kind of gets hard to controll so if you dont like huge waves then dont have it stormy. There is even a Tsunami mode, which wasn't implemented in the E3 version, but NST promises some giant-size wave effects. The results could be phenomenal. This game will be a fantastic game.

Presentation
This game, in some ways, is a lot like Wave Race 64 for the n64. With this in mind, not too much is new and exciting.
8.0
Graphics
The water effects are great and you can see the ground right through the water. The game is very well developed in this area!
9.0
Gameplay
You can control your jet ski fairly easy when it is in the "medium" challenge level. The game may be pretty hard at times, but just stick with it!

Overall
Overall this game looks great and the graphics use all of the horsepower of the Gamecube, making this game a must rent, if not a buy, for a GCN owner!
