![]() Spiderman the Movie GCN Review by: Kazooie Well your Peter Parker aka Spiderman and the game starts off as Spiderman in the olden days. The days when he was a wrestler and didn't fight crime. He goes to his uncle's home only to find him dead and the guy who killed him is running away. Well you search the rooftops of New York looking for him and eventually find him in a warehouse. Then you have to go through a series of puzzles to find him and when you do you fight him. Beat him. And the real story begins! It turns out that Oscorp is after your DNA!! But hell if you'll let them get it! This story closely resembles the first episodes of the Spiderman cartoon series. And it's probably going to follow the movie as well. The Gameplay rocks for this game it's so easy to master and unique. One of the neater features of this game is the "rooftop" levels where you get to websling across the skyline of New York City. The only complaint I have is the weird camera angles and camera locks which can be tricky to master but besides from that this game's control is easy as can be. They make use of basically the entire Gamecube controller except the pad. Crawling on a wall and want to get to the top quicker? No problem! Just use the Zipline and you can get there almost instantly! You can even use this while running! 10 guys have you ambushed? No need to worry! Use a "Spidey Shield" and when it explodes everyone will get hurt! The graphics are smooth as a baby's bottom and crisp. It's far from blocky and since it was made in America the voice acting actually matches. There is virtually nothing I could complain about the graphics for because they are perfect just about! At sometimes I thought I may have been watching the movie when they showed the backdrop of the city. These graphics show the true capability of the Gamecube. The music is cool it's like a heroic type of music you would hear. The sound is also worth it too. One of the coolest things is the people below you when you swing across the buildings start saying "hey look it's Spiderman!" The sound is almost realistic and the music is alright it's not great but still catchy. While not boasting any single area, which boggles the mind, the sheer scope of the title is awe-inspiring. Swinging through cities is worth the price of admission, and the game does have a tendency in some of these ''big'' outdoor areas to feel like Grand Theft Auto 3. Animation is wonderful as well, which makes Spidey's movements seem very true to character. The voice-work is perfect. Maguire and DeFoe reprise their film roles in their respective parts to good effect, while the God-of-B-movies, Bruce Campbell serves as a very funny narrator. Sound effects work well, but even with Dolby Surround, it lacks power. Effects are serviceable, but do not stand out as a high point. Control is spot on. You need not worry anything about it, but sadly, a so-so camera occasionally makes playing tough. Generally only in closed in levels though, so not too much of a play killer. Otherwise, Spidey has never moved and played so true to his original vision. Bravo! This game is definitely a buy all the way! I have yet to see the movie, but this game probably compares exactly to it if the movie is close to the game. The game's overall aspect is pretty good. At first I thought this game would be like other movie based games and suck. But this one didn't.
