Silent Scope 2 PS2 Review by: Kazooie

Games such as Silent Scope never fail to amaze me simply in terms of the kind of detail, and the amount of accuracy that you have to show in order to continue on through the game. In this adventure, it takes the game to the next level and a year or so later involving an evil mastermind and several new boss characters that require an extreme amount of strategy to defeat! The game play really hasn't changed much, in which you peering at the world through the scope of your high powered rifle, but something that does add a little bit of variety is the fact that you can play through as one of two snipers, each having their own path and way of handling things. However, this doesn't have too much of an impact on the overall story and you'll find that it doesn't matter which one you choose, you're still shooting the terrorists.

The modes of game play that you find here are just what you would expect from the Arcade. You have a Story mode, a Time Attack Mode, and the Shooting Range with three different levels that allow you to practice your skills with the rifle and really get into the accuracy part of the game! What you'll find is an intricate scoring system that rates you on your ability to hit key points on whatever target that you might find through the different stages. As always, a headshot is worth more points than anything else, and you can easily take out a boss with a well-placed headshot to complete the level. Another point of interest is the fact that by your progress through the game, you can unlock several different modes and options in the Extra Options menu that allows you to change some of the key elements of the game as well as add more variety to what is already a top-notch game.

The control isn't much of a problem either, with most of it revolving around your ability to focus in and fire off a round at whatever your target may be. If you don't like how fast your scope moves, or even the size of it, it can all be changed through the options menu. Timing and plenty of steady hands is what you'll need to effectively scope in on your intended target and fire off a round, but don't take too long to learn the control, because you're on a time basis. The longer you wait, the sooner you'll be spending a continue! In later stages, learning to control your scope is key and and bosses will truly test your accuracy skill.

Visually, Silent Scope 2 looks great, with extremely extensive detailing in each of the stages, including a city, a giant bridge and even a mission from the side of a moving helicopter! You'll find that the enemies are well designed, but they do tend to repeat themselves, only having some differences in advanced stages, you'll find that you're shooting the same enemy over and over, just in ranging positions. The lighting effects are well done, with explosions, flashes and shadowing affects being very apparent on the darker stages. Some of the key points of the visuals are the x-ray scope that lets you see through walls, and the skeletal design that you see is outright amazing to look at!

The audio here is pretty sparse, with only the arcade port over of voices being your true companion. What music I did hear, was very low key and really didn't do much for adding pace to the game. The sound effects are what really come through, with your partner yelling at you to not shoot him, or to calm down when you're pressing the firing button too fast! Different sound effects include bullets whizzing by you and the rattling of automatic machine gun fire bursting all around you. Outside of that, you won't find too much that will be different from the arcade version.

Overall Silent Scope 2 is a pretty good game that ports over a popular shooting genre and brings it to your home system. With the amount of extra options that can be unlocked through extensive play, and the fact that you can find a real reason to buy an I Link cable and bring a friend over to plug into an extra television, you'll find hours of shooting pleasure. If you're more into action and finding items, you'll find that Silent Scope 2 isn't much for your tastes, and you'll probably want to look towards some other shooting/action game. This is strictly a game for wannbe snipers with nothing better to do than blow terrorist's heads off and score points doing it! I give Silent Scope 2 for PS2 an 8/10 8/10

Presentation
With so much detail and so much accuracy, Silent Scope definitely delivers.

Graphics
The graphics are great! Detailed and smooth. But, the AI tends to be quite repetitive.

Gameplay
The controls are nice and easy. Depending on the person, scoping out your enemies can be an easy task, or hard as hell.
7.5
Overall
If you're the sneaky type and like to scope people out with precision, instead of just blowing them to pieces, then this is the game for you.
