Mario Sunshine for GCN, Preview by: Kazooie

When you first look at previews of it, Mario Sunshine seems just like Super Mario 64, Sonic Adventure, or maybe even Banjo-Kazooie with much larger environments. Mario himself is more detailed than ever, boasting a newly improved high-polygon count and detailed texturing. He also features an extensive facial animation system that displays various types of emotion; from happy to confused, sad to mad and even exhausted.

Mario runs through a 3D spectacular world with a weird looking gadget (a kind of drinking bird and hose combination) strapped to his back and shoulders, this pack is used to shoot water at paint spots that fall from the sky and make a mess of the ground; it's up to the Italian plumber to keep his world clean (sounds kind of cheesy, huh?).

The new Mario will feature:

  • Huge 3D worlds
  • City and suburban environments displayed unlike other Mario games (Unless ya count Mario is missing)
  • Better graphic items including real-time lighting effects and reflections
  • Mario can do all of his fancy moves from SM64 plus even more!
  • Mario features a facial animation system to display emotions
  • Mario Collects Sunshine Coins (I don't know what their for yet, maybe you get to buy stuff)
  • More hidden details
  • Runs at 60 frames per second
  • Rumors are circling that Mario won't have to save Peach for once.

The plot of the game is still a mystery, but as far as I can tell from recent news interviews to the maker of the game the point of it is to go around and get rid of all the rainbow-like paint spots, to clean the whole area. Also, in the bottom-right corner of the screen, a water meter is meant to gauge just how much liquid Mario has left for spraying. Overall after seeing many video previews of this game, it looks like it may be one of the best Nintendo Mario games since the SNES. Hopefully will turn out to be much better than the disappointing "Luigi's Mansion" game. Heck maybe we'll even see Luigi and Yoshi in this one! I'll have more info when more info on this game is released! Mario Sunshine is scheduled for a summer 2002 release in Japan. It will arrive in the US this fall.

    Presentation
The story is may be kind of wierd in Mario Sunshine, but it will definitely be fun!

    Gameplay
This game will probably be a lot like a SM64 or a Banjo Kazooie type adventure game.
