Review by: Nick and Nate

Now in platium, Dead to Rights, is set in nearly the same plot as Max Payne. The main character is Jack slate, a cop in Grant city a corrupt city filled with crime mobsters. Jack's father was an investigator who was badly slain by criminals of the law. Ironically Jack was called to the seen of the crime to try to figure out who killed him and were they left to. Jack decides to take matters into his own hands and sets out to find his father's killers. As the story progresses on, in the story as like in Max Payne Jack gets framed for a murder. Now who is against him? Everyone………the press crucifies him, which leads to a trial in which he is tried, found guilty, then sentenced to death by the electric chair! This wouldn't be a game if he would die now would it. So Jack makes an escape from Iron Point Penitentiary; Then Jack begins his adventure.

Hunted by cops as well as bad guys. He fights with no kind of assistance, he takes care of it anyway he can, guns, knifes, anything…uh did we mention judo or something like it? Is Jack looking for the killers the whole time? Well pretty much but he does have time to squeeze in some mini games like arm wrestling (kind of like in Shenmue?), fighting, bench-pressing etc. Yet another thing in Max Payne that is in DTR is the slow-mo action bullet time, which allows you to switch targets on the fly. This will help you take down the killers and bad mobsters fairly easily. You can disarm enemies, even shoot out the lights above to make it hard for them to find you.

While Max Payne didn't have the judo down this kid does, he can kick, punch, spin kick, block you name it (that will come in handy). The story is told through Jack's first-person voice-overs, which adds insight to each scenario as it unfolds. Kind of like the graphic novel in Max Payne. You might say this game is A LOT like Max Payne but indeed it's not the same.

In-house (developer) took a more action-Filled approach than Remedy's classic "Max Payne", well so we think. The bad dudes in Dead To The Rights come much faster and shoot quicker then in Remedy's Max Payne. So you will be on your toes 100 percent of the time in this game…that's right no slacking off in this one folks. Also Slate has some pretty interesting moves. Lets say slate doesn't have a gun on him, you have two options, do some heavy moves on the freak or take is gun away. How do you take the bad guys gun? Well you can do it in a bloody fashion or using some judo type moves. Sound interesting so far huh kids? Well it gets better (well kind of). Jack can also pick up a bad dude and hold him to soak up all the bullets his foes are shooting at him. Uh..not your style of game eh?? Well its not all gun-play you can finish off you foes by doing some of Jacks moves.

This game is however not all combat…you can play some sub games like I said above. Sound good so far doesn't it? This game seems more and more like Max Payne, the more and more you play it. In Max Payne you get quite a bit of ammo and guns. In this game you barely get any ammo and are in consent need of a gun, or some ammo to keep it loaded.

The city where you end up in is "Grant city" which is gloomy, dark and oh so full of crime. Which fits perfectly with the seaside metropolis setting. The sound track has mixed tunes from jazz to club music and various Lalo Schifrin-styled compositions that bring to mind classic scores of 60's and 70's crime films like "Bullit" and "Dirty Harry". Overall the games, graphics could improve, and the game could have a better story mode, other than thats it's an alright game.
