Time Splitters 2
GCN Preview by: Kazooie

The Time Splitters sequel is almost here, but what does this crafty sequel have for us compared to the PS2 version? The first Time Splitters was also the PS2's first first-person shooter game in its history of games.. It was an overall good game (the multiplayer was a real highlight), but it lacked a good single-player experience. It lacked any kind of a story, and it just basically dropped you in a level. Your goal was to retrieve an item, and then bring it back, while avoiding various monsters. It got pretty annoying and boring after a while. However, Time Splitters 2 promises to get rid of all the original's problems. It'll have a more involving single-player mode, better graphics, and more. And more importantly, it's coming to the GameCube..

Free Radical Design (the company that made Time Splitters 1 and whose going to make this sequel also) was very much disappointed with the original Time Splitters game, and they had good reason to be. They plainly admitted to rushing the game to make the PS2 launch, so with Time Splitters 2 there will be no rush at all and it will hopefully undo all of the original's mistakes. Time Splitters 2 is going to keep the same old time-shifting concept and some of the other major concepts which are important to the game(the bulk of the story has a bunch of time-traveling heroes stopping the forces of evil). The game is going to develop 90 new playable characters, all with their own unique qualities and of course, drawbacks. Time eras in which you can play include the old West, the 1930's in Chicago (which includes gangsters), and of course, the Space Age. The single-player experience is going to delve more deeper, and overall, it should be more enjoyable and satisfying than it was in the first game which lacked many good single player ideas.

Time Splitters 2 is also going to keep the best part of the original game, the multiplayer modes. TS2 will keep all the elements the first one had, with one very special addition: online play. This is depending highly on the fact that Nintendo's online plans fall into place by this fall, hopefully. The game was originally supposed to be released this spring on the PS2, but Free Radical Design wanted to add online play and hopefully the wait for that will be worth it. The graphics in TS2 will also be improved with its new home on the GCN, as it will run at an impressive 60 fps. TS2 will have some awesome special effects, including snow, rain, fire, and more. Detail to the environments will also be slightly improved, along with the all-new character models. Also, one of the original Time Splitter's highlights, the map-making tool, will be available and much better and with more quality than ever to use to your advantage.

So overall, TS2 should beat TS in almost every way. Single-player mode will be improved a lot more and be much more satisfying to the players, the graphics will really be improved, and it will (hopefully) feature online play. Along with the same old wonderful GCN styles of playing and of course the classically enjoyed multi-player mode. Be ready for this game when it comes out in late October. This game is sure to be a very good hit for the GCN.
