![]() REVIEW by: dastly75 Gameplay The gameplay is one of the best things about the game. The system lets you lock onto the head, arms, or torso of your foe. It is a relatively easy concept. The gameplay is the same throughout the game and may dull after playing for a long amount of time. The most complicated aspect of the game is the magic. It will take a while to adjust and learn it. The puzzles are absolutely great. They are simple and at other times they can be difficult or tedious. The boss fights can also be a lot of fun towards the end of the game. These controls are the best controls I have seen in a game of this type. Don't expect it to be troublesome in times of chaos. (Except for...) The characters also have a cool effect when they run. They run out of breath! It’s really realistic, but it can be extremely annoying when you need to escape. You also walk slowly when you have an injury. Some characters (most likely the larger) are slower and vice-versa for the smaller. Sound Some may argue that the voices are bad, but I beg to differ. The voices are unique to each character and they are very fitting. Voices aren't any problem to this game at all. If you want music on the other hand, it isn't really great for this game. You probably won't even notice that there is any. But, the sound effects are nice and crisp Graphics The graphics aren't top quality like, oh lets say, Resident Evil. But, they are really great in their own way. The camera isn't problematic like in Sonic Adventure. The camera always follows you and everything seems very smooth. Mouth movements for the voices are pretty good. For the most part, they tend to match the mouths regularly. The only time I've seen better is during FFX. This game was in development for 4 years (from n64 to Gamecube) and it has been very well polished. Sanity What really makes this game kick is the sanity. The sanity meter lowers when an enemy sees you. It won't rise back up unless you recover with magic, a trapper, or finishing off your enemy. Lowering of the sanity meter thus means you are more insane. One sanity effect is when you go into a room full of zombies and then it says missing controller and you are left to die. It’s quite funny after you realize it’s not real. There are many other little gags the game tries to pull on you, like saying MUTE on the screen and cutting out all volume. It may also say that your memory card has been erased. That one is very freaky. But, don’t worry, it’s not real. Overall For being in development for four years, the game is definately polished to the bone, and it shows. This game is one of the most legit mature rated games there is and I recommend it to everyone who has a Gamecube. Even if you hate Resident Evil, this game can be your solution. Eternal Darkness is one solid reason to own a Gamecube. This title breaks the ice for all the incoming big “N” titles. Pick this game up. Trust me, you will definitely enjoy it.
